My name is Martha. I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer over a decade ago, and went through a lumpectomy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and hormone therapy. Since then, I’ve completed my treatment, and it’s already been 14 years. This is my story.

In my family, there’s no history of breast cancer and I didn’t experience any symptoms. My cancer was unexpected, and only discovered through a health examination.

I was nervous and perplexed about my diagnosis. I felt powerless. To be on the safe side, I consulted a second doctor.

After my diagnosis, I went all out, and tried to double my exercise frequency and eat healthier every day. I focused on making a big mental shift and being thankful for my life and my family.

My doctor initially recommended a mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and hormone therapy. However, instead of a mastectomy, I eventually recommended a lumpectomy, which I opted for.
I have since completed treatment and was declared cancer-free. Fortunately, I didn’t have any financial difficulties because of treatment.

I felt really positive after deciding my treatment plan! I felt happy, relieved, motivated and hopeful.

I had hair loss, nausea and vomiting and a loss of appetite from the cancer treatment. I exercised more and improved my nutrition to try to manage these side effects.

I made the exercise and diet changes after my diagnosis a permanent change in my life. This included much more exercise and a healthy diet every day.
I did not let cancer get in the way of my relationships with my loved ones. I maintained contact with my parents and visited them more often. I’ve been intimate with my partner more frequently and I’ve spent time with my children, going on trips together more often.

Personally, I don’t have any grand plans, just being on my farm is enough for me. However, I wish to go to Canada with my family in the next 2 years.
Overall, I just want to be happy and explore the world with my family.

My biggest fear was hair loss. I tried to overcome this fear by eating healthily.

14 years after my cancer diagnosis, I now feel neutral.

Receive and accept it with all the love.
