Hello, I’m Mujer Valiente* from Colombia.
I’m a mother of two and I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Even though I’ve lost both my parents to cancer, I hold my faith and face cancer like any other disease. This is my story.
*Mujer Valiente directly translates to Brave Woman.

I had fatigue, pain in the toenails, back pain—I consulted doctors several times and was told there was nothing wrong. Finally, I took it upon myself to get a mammogram and consult a mastologist who did an exam and biopsy to make the diagnosis.
I was neutral about the whole situation.

I drastically changed my diet after the diagnosis and ate a healthier diet 7 days a week.

I opted for the following treatments based on my doctor’s recommendations:
- Mastectomy (removal of entire breast)
- Lymphadenectomy (removal of lymph node(s))
- Radiation therapy
- Hormone therapy
It was initially recommended by my doctor to undergo chemotherapy, but that changed along the way.
I am currently still on hormone therapy.

I felt really positive about deciding my treatment plan. I was happy, relieved, motivated and hopeful.

The worst side effects for me were diarrhea, fatigue, and hair loss. I tried to manage it by improving my nutrition.

I made the healthier diet a permanent part of my lifestyle and stuck to it every day of the week.
Intimacy with my partner has decreased quite a bit since my diagnosis, but I’ve maintained the relationship that I have with my children and continue to spend lots of time with them. Unfortunately, we do not go on family trips anymore.

I don’t have any grand aspirations but just to live life. My daughters have motivated me through my journey and I just hope that God may guide my daughters so they succeed in their careers and as wives.

I wasn’t afraid.

Nothing much has changed, I still feel neutral about everything.

Be very positive, we have a great God, cancer is like any other disease, don't dwell on death because we all will die. You have to eat even if you don't have an appetite, because otherwise the body deteriorates and cannot defend itself.
