Hi, I’m Rosalba, from Colombia. I have stage 4 breast cancer, and this is the story of my journey so far.
My biggest fear has been insomnia, and to deal with it I try to use aromatic scents.

My initial diagnosis was unintended, and I didn’t notice suspicious symptoms at first. After hearing the news, I went on to confirm it with another more experienced doctor as well.

I felt sad and vulnerable.

I did try to make changes, and started to eat healthier some days a week.

My doctors recommended a lumpectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone therapy, which I agreed to. The plan made me a bit more hopeful, relieved and happier. I was motivated. During the treatment, I had some difficulties with affording transport to my radiotherapy sessions.

In terms of side effects, the ones that affected me the most were: diarrhea, hair loss, nausea and vomiting. To manage them, I tried to change how I ate.

I started changing my diet more, and now I eat healthier every day.
Before I knew I had cancer
- Called/texted my parents 6 times a week
- Spent time with my children 9 times a week
- Was intimate with my partner 1 time a month
After knowing I had cancer
- Called/texted my parents 9 times a week
- Spent time with my children 9 times a week
- Was intimate with my partner 3 times a month

In the next two years, I hope to keep on traveling, serve the community and the church, as well as volunteer at the cancer foundation. What motivates me the most are: meditation, resilience, and building my faith. I want my children to achieve their goals.

It’s insomnia. So far, I’ve used herbal tea to help with sleep.

Now, I feel optimistic and hopeful.

To others, I would say: “Have faith, hope, and always be optimistic.”
