It started with breast pain during menstruation, which became unbearable. After a doctor consultation and a mammogram, my cancer diagnosis was confirmed.
Based on my own research, I thought my 5-year survival rate to be 90 to 99%. Today, my cancer is in remission.

I was having breast pain during my periods so thought it was normal but one night I couldn't bear the pain and went to my doctor. That's when he suspected there's something wrong and asked me to get a mammogram.
Few days later, I found out that I had breast cancer. Apart from the symptoms mentioned, I also experienced thickening or swelling in part of my breast.

The diagnosis had left me fearful and frightened. I was deeply worried too.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer, I smoked less frequently and ate a healthier diet every day.

My doctor came up with the following treatment plan, which I followed through with:
- Lumpectomy (breast-conserving surgery) to remove the tumor
- Chemotherapy
- Hormonal therapy
- Pain medication
I’ve completed treatment and am in remission, but still taking pain medication currently.
I also incorporated nutritional supplements as part of alternative treatment. Having decided on this plan made me slightly relieved, motivated and hopeful.

Due to the cancer treatments, I experienced hair loss, lack of appetite and weight fluctuations. I took prescribed medication to manage these side effects.

Since my cancer diagnosis, my bond with my parents has strengthened, with me calling and visiting them more often. Same as my relationship with my daughter; we spend more time together now.
However, we have cut down on my family trips. We used to do 5 trips in a year, but now we do one yearly trip. I wish to spend more time with my daughter and give her everything I can. I dream of traveling with my family and friends.

My biggest aspiration is my daughter. Her existence has kept me motivated. I hope to continue being fine and that my cancer does not come back.

I thought, “what if I fall sick again and have to go through all of that again?” I have expressed my fear to my doctors, who’ve helped me through this.

Today, having been some time since my diagnosis, I’m feeling confident, courageous and optimistic.

Stay strong for your loved ones and keep fighting for them with a smile.
