Every October, communities across the United States come together for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, uniting survivors, caregivers, families, and supporters in the fight against breast cancer. Through fundraising events and public awareness initiatives, the American Cancer Society (ACS) aims to turn this shared commitment into meaningful support for people affected by breast cancer.
This year, the American Cancer Society (ACS) is hosting nearly 150 walks nationwide, continuing a movement that celebrates survivors, honors loved ones and raises funds for breast cancer research and patient support services.
Walking together for a common cause
The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer movement brings together people from different backgrounds to support those affected by breast cancer. Participants can walk individually, join an existing team or form groups with friends, family members and colleagues.
For survivors, these walks provide an opportunity to celebrate their journeys and connect with others who understand their experience. For caregivers and families, participating offers a meaningful way to honour their loved ones, and demonstrate solidarity. Other participants may participate in the event to remember someone they have lost or to contribute to a cause that has touched their communities.
The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer movement goes beyond the physical act of walking; they remind participants that a breast cancer diagnosis does not have to be faced alone, and that support can come from families, friends, fellow survivors and the wider communities.
By bringing together participants from all walks of life, ACS aims to strengthen community engagement and keep conversations about breast cancer awareness and support going.
Turning every step into meaningful support
Awareness Fundraising is a central part of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer initiative. According to ACS, every dollar raised directly supports its work, including breast cancer research, patient programmes and services for individuals and families affected by the disease.
ACS has invested more than $600 million in breast cancer research grants over the past 30 years, supporting scientific efforts to improve the understanding , detection and treatment of breast cancer. Continued research is essential to advancing medical knowledge, and developing better options for patients.
Every step, every story and every dollar raised counts.
This October, join a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk and be part of a nationwide movement working towards a future in which fewer lives are affected by breast cancer. Your actions can help sustain the work being done to support the breast cancer community.
