L7 Bassist Jennifer Finch Passes Away After Brain Cancer Diagnosis

Jennifer Finch, bassist for the rock band L7, has passed away after a battle with brain cancer at age 59. The band released a statement on Instagram, confirming her passing on July 18.

L7 is an all-female American rock band, frequently associated with the grunge genre in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band was active from 1985 to 2001, and reformed in 2014. In May 2026, they announced the start of their final tour "The Last Hurrah 2026", scheduled to start in October 2026. Finch has asked her bandmates to continue on their tour as planned.

Finch was the group’s bassist in the 90s, but she left the band in 1996. She eventually joined two other bands, OtherStarPeople and the Shocker, and started her own label, Little Pusher Records. In 2015, Finch rejoined L7 when the group reunited, and performed on their 2019 album, Scatter the Rats.

When Finch was first diagnosed, her doctors told her she had a chance to return to normal life, after treatment and a full course of radiation. However, unforeseen complications in her treatment required multiple surgeries, and limited her physical abilities. These complications resulted in Finch requiring a level of care beyond what friends and family could help provide. She needed in-home nursing care, speech therapy and medical equipment, along with other forms of support.

To fund Finch’s cancer treatment expenses, her friend Aubree Miller helped organize a GoFundMe campaign on her behalf, together with the help of Finch’s family and band. According to Miller, Finch was handling the situation the only way she knew how: ‘one day at a time’.

Once the call for donations went live, the total amount Finch received exceeded the $350K USD goal within just 3 days. Notable contributors included members of Green Day, Pearl Jam, Tool and others. The donations would also cover efforts to preserve her legacy and complete a creative project, originally slated for release in 2027.
