Natalie Harp's Cancer Journey

Natalie Harp, American political aide, has been thrown into the spotlight by Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff when he name-dropped her during his speech which has since gone viral. In his speech, Ossoff said that Trump “doesn’t want to do the job” of the US President but “wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie” instead.

Harp, a 35 year-old California native, is one of Trump's longest-serving and most loyal aides, responsible for his Truth Social posts and other communications. She was also formerly a television presenter for One America News Network (OAN), hosting her own show The Real Story with Natalie Harp.

Harp rose to fame when she credited Trump’s Right to Try law for saving her life in 2019. Trump signed the Right to Try Act into law the year before, which gave terminally-ill patients greater access to experimental drugs without the need for FDA approval.

Harp was diagnosed with stage 2 bone cancer. She shared that the law had allowed her to access experimental treatments which ultimately cured her of her cancer.

“When I failed the chemotherapies that were on the market, no one wanted me in their clinical trials. They didn’t give me the right to try experimental treatments, Mr. President. You did, and without you, I’d have died waiting for them to be approved,” she said during a speech at the Republican National Convention in 2020.

In response to her speech, Trump said that "she lit up the television screen like very few people I have ever seen do it."

Approximately 2 years later, Harp became a member of Trump’s staff, serving as the “special assistant to the President and executive assistant to the President”.

According to the Times, Harp wrote Trump several letters in 2023, which included heartfelt messages such as “You are all that matters to me” and “I don’t ever want to let you down.” In response to these claims, Harp’s brother, Preston, spoke out to CNN earlier this week.

Preston shared that his sister has “had an obsession with, gosh, how do I explain this? She’s written letters to other Presidents. Let me put it that way. And so like, her dream came true finally.” He added that his sister’s relationship with Trump was more of an “infatuation” rather than a “physical attraction”.

This came after Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff’s rally speech on Aug 16, where he accused Trump of wanting to “travel with Natalie” instead of focusing on his duties. However, despite the recent controversy, the White House has described Harp as a "trusted and valued" member of the team.
