Scott Adams, American cartoonist and creator of the comic Dilbert, has passed away at the age of 68 after battling with prostate cancer. He first announced his diagnosis in May 2025 through his daily podcast Real Coffee with Scott Adams.

Who is Scott Adams?

Adams is a cartoonist and author, best known for the popular comic strip Dilbert. However, Adams started his career as a teller while drawing cartoons before Dilbert broke out in the early 1990s. Dilbert is a comic series which satirizes the ridiculous aspects of corporate culture and office life. It eventually became a cultural phenomenon, appearing in thousands of newspapers. The success of the comic even inspired a series of books and television adaptations. However, following controversial remarks by Adams, the comic strip was removed in 2023.

Adams also hosts his own podcast Real Coffee with Scott Adams, where he discusses a wide range of topics including politics and current events. Many listeners appreciate the podcast for its unconventional insights and intellectual honesty. However, it has also been viewed as controversial at times, as Adams is known to express strong and sometimes polarizing opinions on politics and social issues.

Adams first revealed his cancer diagnosis on his podcast, one day after Biden’s announcement of his prostate cancer diagnosis. While discussing Biden's diagnosis, Adams shared, “I also have prostate cancer that has spread to my bones.” He added that he believes that he does not have much time left to live.

Adams considered this to be the best time to share about his diagnosis as he did not want it to blow up as much as possible. “I thought to myself, ‘You know what? I’m going to slide under his story and he’s going to take away a lot of the attention because, you know, [he is the] ex-President.’ It would just be a little bit easier for me to tag on to that,” he confessed.

How prostate cancer has affected Scott Adams

Adams revealed that the cancer had affected his life negatively, causing him intolerable pain. “Every day is a nightmare and evening is even worse,” Adams shared in his podcast. “I’m in pain and I’m always in pain, and the pain moves around to different parts of my body. I’ve been using a walker to walk for months now.”

He also noted that his lifestyle changed after his diagnosis, including having to avoid certain activities at night because of how they affected his body.

Scott Adams call for help

On November 2, 2025, Adams posted on social media platform X, in an effort to “ask President Trump to save my life”. Adams was an avid supporter of Trump and he shared that while he has gotten approval for the treatment drug Pluvicto, the administration of the drug has been delayed. However, his condition is declining rapidly and he hopes to get “a fighting chance to stick around on this planet a little bit longer”.

US President Donald Trump responded on X a few hours later and wrote “on it”. US Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy also responded to Adams’ plea, noting, “The President wants to help.” However, details on how Trump plans to help Adams were undisclosed.

What is Pluvicto?

Pluvicto, otherwise known as lutetium Lu 177 vipivotide tetraxetan, is a drug approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of prostate-specific membrane antigen–positive metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. It combines radioactive particles with molecules that attach themselves to cancer cells.

Once attached, the radiation is released, damaging and killing the cancer cells. Recent studies have shown that patients under Pluvicto treatment have a 28% reduced risk of cancer progression or death.
