On October 10 2026, Cynthia Miller passed away after her battle with cancer. Cynthia is the wife of Detroit Lions play-by-play voice Dan Miller, who stepped away from radio broadcasting on Sunday to be with his family. Dan, who also works as the sports director at FOX 2, has been the Lions’ radio voice since 2005.

Cynthia Miller’s cancer

Cynthia had been battling leptomeningeal disease before she passed away. Leptomeningeal disease is a rare type of cancer, affecting the cerebrospinal fluid and leptomeninges, membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord. Approximately 5% of patients with metastatic cancer will be diagnosed with leptomeningeal disease. There is currently no cure for the disease, and treatment is primarily focused on symptom management.

Supporting the Detroit Lions

Cynthia was also a long time fan and supporter of the Detroit Lions, having attended every single home game that the Lions played.

“My wife loves football, my kids love football. When I'd have a Saturday off in the fall, my daughters would come downstairs and ask, 'What college football games are on today? We'd sit around the TV, they'd have their computers on their lap and we'd watch games," Dan shared.

Remembering Cynthia Miller

The obituary, published by Griffin Funeral Home, wrote, “Cindy had a way of lighting up any room she entered. Charismatic, funny, fearless and full of life, she was someone people were naturally drawn to. Her warmth and accepting nature made everyone feel comfortable and included, while her fierce loyalty and protective spirit left no doubt about how deeply she loved those closest to her.”

A memorial gathering for Cynthia will be held on October 16, 2026. Fans and staff of Detroit Lions have also taken to social media platforms to express their condolences and support for the Miller family.
