Roles in cell function

Spans the width of the cell membrane to receive external stimuli and transmit the signal into the cells
Signal internalized by RET is further passed on through signalling pathways to trigger cell growth and maturation (differentiation into cells with specific functions)
RET plays an important role in the normal development of kidneys, sperms and several kinds of nerve cells.
Cells with mutated ROS1 are constantly being activated and grow without control to form cancerous tumors.
