Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, according to results from his annual medical examination. Netanyahu, 76, shared the news on his social media on April 24th, 2026, and explained that he had delayed the report's release due to the ongoing conflict in Iran.

He had previously undergone surgery for an enlarged benign prostate in 2024, and has been under regular monitoring since then. At the time, the surgery was publicly disclosed.

Netanyahu’s cancer diagnosis and treatment

During one of Netanyahu’s recent check-up’s, his doctors discovered an early-stage tumor in his prostate, which was less than a centimetre long.

While active surveillance was offered as a low-risk way to manage the disease, Netanyahu said he chose to treat the cancer immediately. Since then, he has undergone radiation therapy for his prostate cancer.

The survival rate for prostate cancer is the highest amongst all cancers, standing at 97% across all stages. Prostate cancer discovered early fares the best, with survival rates close to 100% five years post-diagnosis.

Netanyahu’s health status

According to Netanyahu’s latest Instagram post in April 2026, he is now “healthy” and in “excellent physical shape”, after his prostate cancer was “completely treated”.

His doctors have also confirmed that based on the results of imaging tests and blood work, his cancer has gone into remission.

Prior to this announcement, speculation on his health status had circulated around social media, while Netanyahu himself sought to refute such claims, by sharing a video of himself visiting a café and having a coffee.

Past health issues

Netanyahu has also faced cardiovascular issues in the past, and was fitted with a pacemaker after experiencing a “transient heart block”. Before being fitted with the pacemaker, he also had an alleged “fainting episode”, although other claims indicate that it was only “dizziness”.
