Hi, I’m Aishah from Singapore and I'm a mother of two. A mammogram sponsored by my company helped me find out I had stage 2 breast cancer.

My company offered mammogram screening for employees, so I went because it was free. When I got the results, the report said that the mammogram had detected a lump in my breast. It was a surprise to me and my GP referred me to the hospital. There, the doctor told me that I had stage 2 breast cancer. In addition to that, I also had irritation in my breast skin.
The diagnosis left me feeling many things. I was:
- Frightened, insecure, overwhelmed and worried
- Empty, isolated and felt grief
- Surprised, confused and perplexed

I've been taking supplements for a long time, but after being diagnosed with cancer, I looked for supplements that were more suitable for my condition, such as those that boost immunity. Since then, I’ve also started exercising more, and eating healthier more often each week.

Initially, deciding on my treatment left me angry, anxious, discouraged, and scared. I underwent mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and pain medication as recommended by my doctors. During my treatment, I experienced some unbearable side effects and had to change my plans. After addressing them, I felt less anxious and scared.
I also relied on nutritional supplements to support my medical care. In addition to supplements, I also look for juices that have a lot of healthy nutrients (e.g. green juice).
Thankfully, I’ve now completed my treatment and I’m in remission.

The side effects—diarrhea, fatigue, and hair loss—were challenging, but I managed them with prescribed medication, improved nutrition, juices and supplements that boost my immunity.

Since beginning treatment, I've permanently changed my lifestyle. I now maintain a healthier diet every day and continue to keep up exercising more, at least more than half what I used to before. I also take a good supplement for women. I take it frequently. Unfortunately I found myself spending a bit less time with my children, and we haven’t been going on family trips recently.

My eldest son wants to attend university in Australia, so I might want to migrate there. If I really decide to, I have to make plans to quit my job, move out of our house. I really don’t have big dreams. After my cancer experience, I just want to be healthy for as long as possible. God willing, I want to see my two children continue their studies until they get to university.

Hm.... I feel scared when I thought that the supplements and healthy diet that I’ve worked on until now can’t prevent the cancer from coming back.... To deal with it, whenever I see my GP, I always ask if my blood test results are OK or not, if I'm healthy enough or not. Apart from that, I go for mammogram screening regularly to check if there are any lumps in my breasts.

Today, I feel optimistic and neutral.

For others facing the same, I’d say “Cancer is a disease that has different effects on different people.. do your best to overcome this challenge and God willing, you can also recover from this disease.”
