Hello, my name is Angelina. I’m a mother to 2 children, and this is my cancer story.
It all started with a growing lump on my breast that I sought medical help for. This led to a diagnosis of stage 2 breast cancer, with a 5-year survival rate of 95%.
My doctors then recommended a DIEP mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and hormonal therapy as part of my treatment regimen, which I proceeded with. I’m currently on chemotherapeutics.

The main symptom I had was a lump in my breast that consistently grew. After seeking medical attention, I was eventually informed by doctors that I had stage 2 breast cancer. Thankfully, my 5-year survival rate was 95%.

Receiving the diagnosis of breast cancer stirred anger and fear within me. I felt helpless and worried about what the future held, and a sense of resentment towards the situation.

Upon diagnosis, I made a conscious decision to reduce my alcohol intake, going from three drinks a week to none at all.

The treatment plan that I was recommended by my doctor involved a
I decided to proceed with these treatment options after my own research. I’m currently on chemotherapy medication.

While undergoing treatment, I experienced some side effects, including
- fatigue
- hair loss
- mucositis
Managing these side effects has been challenging, but I have found ways to cope. Incorporating more frequent exercise and focusing on improved nutrition have helped alleviate some of the discomfort associated with these side effects.

One significant adjustment I've made is in my alcohol intake.
Another significant aspect of my life that’s been impacted by cancer is my relationship with my children. Thankfully, we spend more time with one another now. Our plans for the next two years involve spending more quality time together. As for personal plans, I am focused on reducing stress and incorporating daily meditation into my routine. These lifestyle changes are aimed at fostering my overall well-being and achieving a sense of inner peace and balance.

One of my biggest dreams and aspirations is to write a book. In fact, I’ve finally started writing again. Together with my spouse, I also have a dream of retiring in a non-city environment and running a rescue farm.

Throughout my journey to recovery, my greatest fear has been the possibility of not fulfilling my dreams. However, at present, my focus is on recuperating and striving towards reaching retirement age to realize my retirement aspirations.

Today, my emotions surrounding my condition lean mostly toward optimism. I feel a sense of courage, hopefulness, and gratitude for the journey that lies ahead.

For those currently navigating their own cancer journey, I would offer this advice: take each day as it comes; there will be both good days and bad days. During the challenging moments, don't hesitate to reach out for support, whether it be from friends, family, or online communities.
