My name is Cody, and this is the story of my experience with stage 2 prostate cancer.

At the start, I had discomfort in the groin and so I went to see my doctor. After some checks, I was eventually diagnosed with stage 2 prostate cancer.
When I first heard the news, I felt frightened, helpless, nervous, and worried about the long journey that lay ahead of me.

Following the diagnosis, I faced the reality of having to make certain lifestyle adjustments for the sake of my health. For instance, I cut out alcohol completely whilst incorporating healthier food into my regular diet. I've also cut down on smoking.

Initial Plan:
- Radical Prostatectomy - Removal of entire prostate gland
- Chemotherapy
- Radiation therapy
Eventual treatment:
- Radical Prostatectomy - Removal of entire prostate gland
- Chemotherapy
- Pain medication
After doing my own research, I later chose not to continue with radiation therapy because of unbearable side effects. Apart from conventional treatment, I also took nutritional supplements and tried health cleanses and juices. Making this change to my treatment plan did make me feel a little more motivated, even though I was still anxious and scared.

Throughout my treatment, I grappled with the harsh realities of its side effects. The physical toll was evident, as fatigue, diarrhea and radiation burns. I tried to mitigate the impact of these side effects through improved nutrition and medication.

Since completing cancer treatment, I've continued the lifestyle adjustments I made after diagnosis, in terms of cutting down on alcohol and smoking whilst eating more healthily.
Having cancer hasn't just impacted my lifestyle, but my relationships too. While my parents and I have been in more regular contact since my diagnosis, my intimate life with my partner has unfortunately dwindled. However, I am looking forward to celebrating the holidays with my family. In terms of personal plans for the future, there's nothing out of the usual; I'm just working to pay the bills and spending time with family and friends.

Throughout my cancer journey, my biggest dream has been to simply live a normal life. With my loved ones, I look forward to spending quality time together and making the best memories.

Cancer recurrence has always been my greatest fear. To deal with it, I talk to my family and friends, look on Reddit and forums for advice on what to do to make sure my health stays good. I also never miss checkups with my doctor, so he can check on my PSA levels.

Reflecting on how I feel now, there's a sense of optimism, and I feel a lot more confident and hopeful. I feel more neutral about my diagnosis now.

Lean on your loved ones, because they can support you through this journey.
